Obama's Speech at the Lincoln Memorial

A host of entertainers, including Beyonce, Usher, Garth Brooks, Mary J. Blige, Bruce Springsteen, and others, played a concert at the Lincoln Memorial today, to a crowd estimated to number over 500,000.

Obama's speech, as his speeches ever are, was inspirational and memorable, and I am so proud that he will be our President, the man who represents all of us in the eyes of the world. A memorable, proud time indeed. 

The full text of Barack Obama's speech at the Lincoln Memorial on January 18, as prepared for delivery:

“I want to thank all the speakers and performers for reminding us, through song and through words, just what it is that we love about America. And I want to thank all of you for braving the cold and the crowds and traveling in some cases thousands of miles to join us here today. Welcome to Washington, and welcome to this celebration of American renewal.

President-elect Obama sent out a press release to his grassroots organizers.---yes, that includes many of us!

Not too bad for a community organizer, eh, right-wingers? Not to mention brilliant. The man and the idea.

The release is to announce a new organization, comprised initially of the volunteers who worked to get him elected, Organizing for America. The purpose of the organization is to re-direct those energies in to support of the Obama/Biden agenda through community organizing. Brilliant.

Fellow citizens: For eight years, it has been my honor to serve as your President. The first decade of this new century has been a period of consequence - a time set apart. Saying, "Our problems are rooted in past mistakes, not in our capacity to make the future better.", Obama warned of dire consequences if the passage of the stimulus plan is delayed. He went on to lay out significantly more details re the plan, and in closing, warned congress that delay was not acceptable:

“For every day we wait or point fingers or drag our feet, more Americans will lose their jobs. More families will lose their savings. More dreams will be deferred and denied," Obama said. "And our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse.”Source: ABC News live broadcast
