►Expected to be nominated for commerce secretary on Monday, is former U.N. Ambassador and Energy Secretary in the Clinton administration, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.
“New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has emerged as a "serious contender" to head the Commerce Department under President-elect Barack Obama, according to a Democratic official close to the proceedings.

►Tim Geithner is expected to be nominated for treasury secretary on Monday, according to the Huffington Post.
It is noteworthy that the Dow surged ahead by 500 pts. after this was made public.
“As president of the most important of the regional Fed banks since November 2003, Geithner has not only had a front-row seat at the most serious financial collapse since the 1930s, he is the key public official who has prevented it from becoming another Great Depression.
Geithner's admirers span the spectrum from Republican financial mogul Pete Peterson to liberal Democrat Barney Frank. One can infer from his broad fan base three possible conclusions: Wall Street is so clubby and politically powerful that permissible policy differences just aren't that great; or maybe Geithner is all things to all people; or perhaps, in a deep crisis, truly talented and effective people can earn broad respect.” The American Prospect
►Malia and Sasha Obama will attend the Sidwell Friends School in Washington. You may recall that Chelsey Clinton attended SFS, graduating ten years ago. Vice President-elect Joe Biden's grandchildren also attend the school.

►Economist, Paul Krugman draws another parallel between 1932 and 2008 in his NYT column.
“There is, however, another and more disturbing parallel between 2008 and 1932 — namely, the emergence of a power vacuum at the height of the crisis. The interregnum of 1932-1933, the long stretch between the election and the actual transfer of power, was disastrous for the U.S. economy, at least in part because the outgoing administration had no credibility, the incoming administration had no authority and the ideological chasm between the two sides was too great to allow concerted action. And the same thing is happening now.”
►A Gallup poll on American opinion of the Republican party. A 61% unfavorable view of the G.O.P. speaks loudly, and by the way, it is the highest unfavorable rating for the G.O.P. recorded by Gallup since they began tracking it in 1992.
