As is usual for me, I procrastinated until the last possible moment on filing my tax returns. Thus, I'm now working my derrière off to get them done, and while writing this post is a welcome break for me, I do have to keep it short.
I know that many of you are SEO gurus (so stop reading this, cause you already know it), and many more of you still, are probably aware that Google penalizes sites with duplicate content. When you categorize your posts, do you add more than one category? If so, you are publishing duplicate content, and Google will get you when they index your category pages! :)
The solution is to think really hard about your categories. Use general terms, and force yourself to set a max of one category to each post.
Example: One of my categories is "Fashion". I originally dubbed it "Fashion Trends". When I posted a video about runway hazards, I realized I had no category in which to place it. Yes, I could easily have created another cat......say, "fashion" or "videos", but I reasoned that many posts could also go in to the "fashion" category, and if I placed it in a "video" category, it would still need to be entered in a fashion category. My solution was to rename "fashion trends" to "fashion", a much more general category, and therefore no need to create duplicate content.
As you can see, your category structure should always be a work in progress if SEO is a consideration.
Note: I have read other|differing opinions on this, so feel free to post yours!
