Study Claims That Wearing High Heels May Improve Your Sex Life: My Take

Pink pumps According to a study done by Italian urologist, Dr. Maria Cerruto, wearing a higher heel may strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, and thus put a little zing back in to your sex life.

The subjects of the study were 66 women under the age of 50, and according to Cerruto, the evidence suggests that those subjects who held their foot at a 15° angle to the ground (wearing a 2 inch heel would do it), showed less electrical activity in their pelvic muscles, and their posture was just as good as those women who wore flat shoes.

The pelvic floor muscles in women are responsible for providing support to the pelvic floor organs, including the bladder, bowels, and uterus, as well as contributing to sexual performance and satisfaction. Unfortunately, these muscles do weaken as women age, and after pregnancy and childbirth.

Okay, makes sense. Maybe. But, the study was really too small to draw any real conclusions. Cerruto is herself a self-professed lover of high heels, and undoubtedly biased (not that I really blame her for that).

That said, I LOVE high heels. I love the way I walk in high heels, I love that they make me feel feminine, and I love that they make me appear to be taller than my actual height of  5'6". BUT, I really have trouble believing that they are good for us. I suspect that future studies will discount Cerruto's study.

Do I care? Will I continue wearing high heels even if they find that not only is there not a benefit, but they actually damage the bones in your feet or something equally icky??  NO, I don't care. I am NOT friggin' givin' up my high heels until I'm 90. If then. big eyes smiley  basic smiley

Opinion: Misogyny in America is Alive and Well

You may feel that this is "old news" since it occurred a week or so ago, however, after watching the Democrats debate this week, and hearing the commentary afterwards, I was inspired to write a post with my take on it.

Elton JohnElton John raised 2.5 million for Hillary Clinton's campaign on April 9, at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Speaking to the audience, he stated that he felt that there is no one more qualified to lead the United States in to the next era, and then had this to say:

“Having said that, I never cease to be amazed at the misogynistic attitude of some people in this country. And I say to hell with them.”

In my opinion, this misogyny  became very clear after watching Clinton and Obama debate in Pennsylvania, and listening to|reading the commentary in response. While Clinton was certainly aggressive, she was also polite. Yes, she did point out some of her issues with Obama. Were her statements untrue? No. Were her statements excessively derogatory? No. Was she rude? No. If she were a he, would these statements have received the amount of criticism that they engendered? NO. Her statements were in response to questions asked of her by the moderator, Charles Gibson. Clinton committed the error of not appearing "unassuming enough", "feminine enough", and most egregious of all the errors that she made during her campaign, she committed the sin of being a woman in a misogynistic society, a society where even many women accept the status quo without thinking. A society that, unbelievably, still sees women as incapable of leading our country.

I really shouldn't be so surprised. After all, even Madonna apparently views misogyny as acceptable, as she has publicly stated her plans|desire to produce an album with noted misogynist, rapper, m&m.
