►UPDATE on Penny Pritzker:This morning, we told you that Penny Pritzker was said to be the Obama choice for commerce secretary, according to the New York Times. According to Jake Tapper of ABC News, Penny Pritzker is out of the running.
“Obama-Biden Transition Team spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter says, "Penny Pritzker is a trusted adviser and valued friend to the President-elect, and played a critical role in his campaign. She would be an enormous asset to an Obama administration, given her experience in business and economic growth, but has decided that, given her family and business commitments, she is not interested in serving at this time. She'll continue to be a close economic advisor to the president-elect and his team"”
►Dingell [D-MI] gets the boot, and loses his chairmanship of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. His replacement is Henry Waxman, a liberal Dem from California, who is seen as a better fit with Obama. The auto bail-out mess is.......well, Dingell's banishment has nothing to do with the auto-lord-idiots who arrived on their private jets with their hands out, does it? <----insert sarcasm
“Waxman, a California liberal and avid environmentalist and booster of health care programs, toppled Dingell Thursday on a vote of 137-122 in the Democratic Party caucus, capping a bitter fight within party ranks.” Huffpo

►A completely fascinating story from Mother Jones, regarding the profits to be made from war.
“This is a story of the other world, the one whose real power players never show up in the CNN headline crawl. It's the story of a man with a habit of popping up, Zelig-like, at the nexus of foreign policy and the kinds of businesses that thrive in times of war—security contracting, infrastructure development and postwar reconstruction, influence and intelligence brokering.”

►Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano (D), is Obama choice to head up Homeland Security.
“ Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano (D) has been chosen to serve as secretary of the vast and troubled Department of Homeland Security for President-elect Obama, Democratic officials said. ►Conservative columnist, Kathleen Parker, in a column for the Washington Post, claims that for the Republican party, religion is "gorilla in the pulpit", and goes on to argue that the evangelical right-wing is destroying the G.O.P..
“Three little letters, great big problem: G-O-D.
I'm bathing in holy water as I type.
To be more specific, the evangelical, right-wing, oogedy-boogedy branch of the GOP is what ails the erstwhile conservative party and will continue to afflict and marginalize its constituents if reckoning doesn't soon cometh.
Simply put: Armband religion is killing the Republican Party. And, the truth -- as long as we're setting ourselves free -- is that if one were to eavesdrop on private conversations among the party intelligentsia, one would hear precisely that.”
