Protesting the Passage of Prop 8 - a despicable violation of the civil rights of a minority

Barack Obama on Prop 8:

When you start playing around with constitutions just to prohibit somebody who cares about another person, it just seems to me that that's not what America is about.

From the Obama interview with Sway/MTV on Nov 1, 2008.

Not Politics Anymore and a Moral Conundrum

kids-collage Once upon a time (1999 or so) I had a friend who was a racist. We had not been friends for long, but she knew how I felt about racism, so she never showed me her own until one evening at a local pub, as we were enjoying burgers and drinks. I don't remember precisely what she said, but it was something that was clearly racist.

Yeah, she was drinking, but that's no excuse. And, in fact, that she said it out loud wasn't the issue. What mattered, of course, was that she viewed people as "us and them", and that she considered the "them" part of the equation to be less than the "us".

The Anti-American Activities of the GOP in the 2008 Presidential Election - Part One

18 more days until the election The GOP is hard at it in attempts to discredit the Democratic candidate, Senator Barack Obama, in a manner which is certainly not befitting a major party. To the contrary, the GOP is behaving more and more like a fringe group, inciting violence, racism, and attempting once again to steal the election from the Democrats. We will not let them do it this time. And, yeah, this kind of stuff completely infuriates me, and also compels me to keep going until election day. I do not want to live in a country where one party rules. Uh, that's called 'fascism', and yeah, I am dead serious.

waterboardflierobama The GOP's anti-American activities this week include many more incidents than I can cover here, but I can highlight the most egregious of those activities, starting with the GOP in California.

Yesterday the news broke that the  Sacramento County Republican Party website was encouraging readers to 'waterboard' Barack Obama and comparing him to Osama bin Laden. Screenshot to the left courtesy of The Sacramento Bee. The material has since been removed from the website, as have the comments left there. Interested in seeing what waterboarding, a technique used at Guantanamo to torture prisoners, looks like? View the video after the jump.

Another incident orchestrated by a California Inland Republican women’s group, created and circulated a newsletter with the image of a food stamp. Screenshot to the left, courtesy of The Press Enterprise. featuring Obama’s head on the body of a donkey,  and surrounded by fried chicken, ribs, and watermelon. Unbelievably, the president of the group, Diane Fedele, has denied racist intent. She disingenuously stated that It was just food to me. It didn’t mean anything else.

McCain Campaign Enlists Secret Service to Help in Cover-up

19 more days until the election  The unscrupulous McCain Campaign has apparently asked the Secret Service to prevent reporters from interviewing people in the crowd at their rallies. This has the effect of preventing reporters from interviewing those who yell despicable things such as "Kill him". The Campaign can then say that the incident never occurred.

They did this with a recent incident, and it is not only a cover-up, but it puts the Secret Service in a position of aiding the candidate to preserve his/her reputation, which is not legal.

Unscrupulous damn $#@&*(^!!!. Read article here.

Another Threat of Violence at a Palin Rally in Scranton, PA

20 more days until the election
At a Palin rally on Tuesday, October 14, in Scranton, PA, one of Palin's supporters again shouted "Kill him", as the crowd booed a reference to Barack Obama by Republican Congressional candidate, Chris Hackett.

The Secret Service is now investigating that incident, and if they find the individual whom they are seeking, he will likely be arrested. However, in my opinion, it is a damn shame that McCain and Palin are not held accountable, and arrested, for inciting violence across multiple venues, using their own clear contempt for Obama to do so.

This is perhaps the most dangerous election I have ever watched unfold. And, it is by far, the most contemptible.

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann calls for McCain to suspend his campaign and bring it under control.
