Oscar Wilde: There is no friendship possible
“ Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship. ”
Hmmm......shades of Katherine Hepburn.

“ Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship. ”

Really? But the best friends I ever had were women? I must be from some other planet.

Yup, I'd agree with that. Every female best friend I ever had I also worshipped and would have done anything to be in a relationship with. Of course on their side it was just good friends. Why do women find it easier to be friends with someone of the opposite gender but men can't do it.

@ Joel.........most of my best friends have been male, but, there were frequently "issues".
@ Carl.....I think it depends on the people. And, I don't think it's something that you can control. If both people experience a strong physical attraction to one another, friendship is difficult, because of the underlying tension.
On the other hand, if you get past that attraction, friendship is a wonderful bonus. Just my opinion, of course.
Oh, and women don't find it easier. If we aren't attracted to a man, then it's easy. :)

Oscar was a master of the memorable epithet but I think he frequently overstated his case for effect. Two of my best female friends are my ex-wives and my very best female friend is my future wife. Sorry Oscar ...I see what you're driving at but I just dont buy it!
